Coming Together in Times of Crisis
The current event has created an impact worldwide and Tucketts has also been impacted. This proves, one more time, that we are all interconnected and we all share the good and bad times. Of course, there is always the other side of the coin in any situation and COVID-19 is no exception.
Through my own meditation practice and studies, I have learned the concept of oneness, we are connected to one another and to the entire universe. Nothing and No One is left out! COVID-19 once again clearly demonstrates that there is no human being placed above another one and that the impact of our actions or omissions are much bigger than we could ever have imagined.
At Tucketts, we are taking the present situation as an opportunity to re-evaluate our impact, see the positive in what life throw to us and overall appreciate each and every person that interacts with us: clients, employees, suppliers, vendors, partners, followers and anyone else that comes into the picture of the big Tucketts family.
I have been asked a lot lately how COVID-19 has affected us and my answer has evolved as the weeks of confinement advance. At the beginning, it was alarming to see sales dropping in such a dramatic way. We have been used to consistent growth year after year, and the panic took over at the inability to answer the most basic question for an entrepreneur: How am I going to pay my employees and contractors? Even if today I am trying to answer that question and working hard on not laying anyone off and keeping my team together, there was a shift inside me. Slow-motion took place and I started to realize that this could be a great opportunity to re-evaluate what we are doing, how we are doing it and most importantly, why we are doing it. It’s an introspective process and a work-in-progress, but the good news is that I already know that what’s coming is going to be even more clear and better than what it was.
For many years, I have been questioned for not giving priority to profit, for making decisions that cost a bit more. For instance, not manufacturing in China because of course, price is lower and production is faster there. I decided from day one, that Tucketts needed to have a balance between people, planet and profit and that decisions have to be made beyond profit. I wanted to clearly trace where the impact of your purchase was going. Our choices are definitely much bigger than we understand. Today I am glad I was either stubborn or perseverant in my idealistic way of operating a company and it motivates me to go even further.
There is going to be a new normal. The world has always been in constant change and it will be. The issue is that we, as humans, fight hard to maintain the status quo and it’s time to embrace change. At Tucketts, we will adapt and excel without sacrificing our values. COVID-19 is giving us the awareness and perspective to get a better idea and understanding of where we are going, while redefining what and who is essential. Where are you going next?
Today’s situation also showed us who the real heroes are for humankind, and sadly, they are the ones that are paid lower or completely ignored by us. Can we live without farmers, doctors, nurses, grocery store workers, cleaners, maintenance workers? Who is essential now? We are part of the transformation in society and need to take an active role in it. Let’s start within us, examining how we are living, what are the inner viruses we have that also have been infected and spread to our family, friends, community and more. Each individual is the base of society, it’s up to us how we really want to live in oneness.
If you have the chance, please support small businesses, either online or in your community. One small purchase has a big impact!
Sending you all big hugs and much appreciation for taking the time to read this post.
Please share with us how COVID-19 has impacted you in a positive way!
